Background
The Event
Many software systems are developed with respect to tight deadlines. These tight deadlines are determined by a need to respond to rapid changes in the market place. The rate of change in the business environment continues to increase to a level where existing development approaches and environments are unable to respond effectively.

One approach worthy of consideration is to apply a Rapid Application Development (RAD) method in a project. The Dynamic Systems Development Method (DSDM) is such a method. It recommends the application of a series of principles, which provide a fast and effective way to develop systems within limited deadlines and manpower resources. It has become very popular in the UK since it was first launched in January 1995. It is available in the public domain and is being considered the de facto standard for RAD. It is now in use in some organisations in Ireland, Europe, the USA and Australia.

DSDM is primarily a framework, or 'methodology' rather than a method populated with a full set of products/deliverables. It can be used on its own or in conjunction with a structured or in-house method, in which the detailed techniques of the existing method may be selectively applied to implement DSDM.

Who should attend?

The course is aimed at Managers, Team Leaders, Systems Analysts and Designers who require an understanding of RAD techniques as used in DSDM, as well as those intending to take an active role in a DSDM project team. It will also benefit those wishing to update their skills in rapid development techniques.

This course will provide a thorough insight into DSDM and how it can be applied in your projects. It will have a series of practical sessions and a case study, which will allow participants to apply the principles and techniques during the course.

At the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • describe the framework of DSDM and the nine principles;
  • apply the DSDM process;
  • understand the categories of prototyping and be able to manage them;
  • use the products of DSDM;
  • understand and apply the principle of timeboxing, DSDM roles and skills;
  • identify the Critical Success Factors (CSFs) of their organisation;
  • organise/participate in a Facilitated workshop;
  • assess the implications of adopting DSDM.

This course is accredited by the DSDM Consortium and a certificate will be issued to delegates on its completion. This certificate can be used as part of the DSDM Consortium's process, to become a certified 'DSDM Practitioner'.

For detailed course contents and schedule please contact Jim Rook at the CSE on +353 1 700 5640.
